Portal Image 1

The Research Web Portal is a point of access of research resources for investigators, students, faculty, and staff across MSM to integrate clinical and translational research information, data and knowledge resources, and provide a single point of entry for researchers across MSM and outside collaborations.

Researchers can create collaborative groups by using our private social networking connection through “Research Connect”

The Biomedical Informatics Unit (BIU) at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) focuses on the Integration of MSM and affiliated health information systems into an interoperable Clinical and Translational Research Data Repository (CTDR).

Such systems include:

· Electronic Medical and Personal Health Records

· Patient Databases

· Basic, Translational, Clinical and Population-based Research Databases

The long-term goal of the BIU is to establish an integrated standards-based informatics platform to support MSM Clinical and Translational Research Investigators in their own work and in sharing research information with collaborators and other investigators in parallel fields.

Biomedical informatics is a scientific discipline that focuses on the acquisition, storage, and use of information in health and biomedicine. There are basically four levels of medical informatics.

Though much of clinical practice involves gathering, synthesizing, and acting on information, there is a growing concern that information is not being used as effectively as possible in health care. We are in an era of uncontrolled health care costs, compromised patient safety, and a lack of utilization of information technology applications that have the potential to improve the situation. The role of biomedical informatics is therefore critical as we advance clinical and translational research in modern times.
